Five steps. The first four happen in our atelier on Soi 17; the fifth is out in Chiang Mai. Hair, make-up and a photographer are optional.

Arrive
Come to our shop on Nimmanhaemin Soi 17. We have moved across the lane from our previous shop, so look for “Thai Heritage” by name on the map. Friends who come with you can wait in the lounge.

Choose a look
Browse the twelve looks of the 泰韵 collection and our new pieces before you come: each one is a special handmade VIP dress (1,500 THB). Or choose on the day from the standard costumes on our racks, rented by the package. Silk, gold embroidery and jewelry, for women and men.

Fitting & alterations
We fit the set on you and adjust it in our atelier, so it sits right when you walk, sit down and pose for photos.
-
Hair & make-up optional
If you like, add a traditional Thai updo, make-up, or both, done in our make-up studio. They are priced separately from the dress.

How to prepare
到店前准备
เตรียมตัวก่อนมา
A few small things make a long day in silk easier.
-
A strapless bra
Many Thai dress looks leave one or both shoulders bare. A strapless or stick-on bra keeps straps out of sight.
-
A light shawl
Temple halls ask for covered shoulders. A thin shawl over a bare shoulder solves it at the door.
-
Comfortable sandals or shoes
Shoes are not part of the Thai dress rental, so bring your own. Flat sandals you can slip off make temple visits easier: shoes come off at every hall.
-
Water, sunscreen and a fan
Midday in Chiang Mai can be hot. Plan a few breaks in the shade.
-
An early start, or the evening light
Mornings are cooler and calmer. From October to January the sun sets between about 17:46 and 18:07, close to our 18:00 closing, so a full day can take in the evening light.

Wearing Thai dress respectfully
穿泰服的礼仪
มารยาทการแต่งชุดไทย
Thai people are happy to see visitors in Thai dress. Wearing it with care is how you say thank you.
In a temple, four simple things show that care.
-
Cover shoulders and knees
Inside a temple hall, keep your shoulders and knees covered. If your look leaves a shoulder bare, add a light shawl at the door.
-
Shoes off at the door
Take your shoes off before you step into a wihan or ubosot, and leave them outside with the others.
-
No climbing, no leaning
Never climb, sit on or lean against Buddha images, chedis or temple walls, not even for a photo.
-
No alcohol in the dress
Save drinks for after you hand the dress back. Alcohol does not belong in a temple, and spills mark silk.
Speak softly inside, and give monks room to pass. Women should not touch a monk or hand him anything directly.
